Celebrate the artistry of summer at Chalk Art in the Village, hosted by the Carlsbad Village Association (CVA). This free community event invites you to experience the magic of chalk art as talented local and regional artists transform blank spaces into vibrant masterpieces inspired by the theme “Final Days of Summer.”
Featured Artists
- Katie Bush: Katie (she/her) is an award-winning chalk artist based in San Diego who discovered her love for chalk art in 2013. In 2015, she launched San Diego Chalk Artist and has since created large-scale pieces for events across the country. A former art teacher and museum educator, Katie also works in graphic and web design for creative businesses. Her bold and colorful chalk creations have made her a standout at festivals and corporate events nationwide.
- Cecelia Linayao: Cecelia is an award-winning San Diego-based artist known for her vibrant, large-scale chalk murals created at festivals around the world. She has been a featured artist at the renowned I Madonnari Street Painting Festival and serves as a Peace Paint Ambassador for the International Art Miles Mural Project. Her work combines performance and community engagement, often involving public interaction and large collaborative projects. Cecelia has also led monumental pieces such as a Sistine Chapel ceiling recreation and several world-record chalk drawings.
- Meg Beverly Canilang: Meg is a professional painter and chalk artist who began chalk art at age 11 and earned her B.A. in Painting and Printmaking from SDSU in 2023. She currently teaches as an Assistant Art Teacher at a private studio, sharing her passion and techniques with students. Meg’s work ranges from realism and portraits to expressive, experimental styles, always aiming to make an emotional impact.
- Phyllis Swanson: Phyllis is a muralist who worked with Studio 2 in Carlsbad for over 25 years, creating large-scale pieces for festivals and public spaces. She has been a featured artist at Carlsbad’s Artsplash, Chalk La Strada in San Diego, and the prestigious I’Madonnari festival in Santa Barbara. Her work has appeared in numerous juried exhibitions and earned multiple awards at the San Diego County Fair. Today, she focuses on acrylic and collage from her Oceanside home studio while continuing to take on special commissions.
- Ron Juncal: Ron is the owner of Studio 2 in Carlsbad and a multi-disciplinary artist known for his colorful, edgy style. He began his career creating interior murals and later expanded into painting, collage, and performance art. Ron frequently showcases his work at festivals and community events, captivating audiences with his inventive approach. Through Studio 2, he also mentors emerging artists and supports Carlsbad’s vibrant arts community.

- Live Chalk Art: Watch artists create colorful 4’ x 4’ murals in real time.
- Extended Exhibit: Completed works will remain on display through September 14 in the Village Faire Shopping Center courtyard.
