SMART & FINAL OPENS FIRST EXTRA! STORE IN CARLSBAD

Fresh produce, gorgeous flowers, a full deli, a fantastic bakery, a meat counter, every gift card imagineable, and so much more are all at your fingertips. And while Smart & Final is known for its lower cost, bulk items, finding single serve portions and everything you need for a picnic at the beach or dinner for a family of two is right there.
To add to its charm, each aisle is marked not only with an aisle number per usual, but they are also marked by the street names found in the Village . . . like Carlsbad Village Drive and Monroe Street.
Southern California-based retailer Smart & Final opened its first Smart & Final Extra! store in Carlsbad January 19th at 955 Carlsbad Village Drive. The store is the first of 33 former Haggen locations to open as a Smart & Final Extra! store. It has created approximately 50 new jobs for the area.
“Customers who have shopped at our traditional core stores will be pleasantly surprised. Our Smart & Final Extra! stores include a full fresh produce section, lots of organics and natural products, our Good & Well options, a wide variety of bulk dry foods, plus a whole lot more,” said Rick Morales, Smart & Final district manager.
In comparison to traditional Smart & Final stores, Smart & Final Extra! stores offer shoppers expanded frozen, deli & meat sections, a full produce section, organic and natural food products including Smart & Final’s Sun Harvest product line, more high quality perishables, a wide selection of private label offerings, and products offered in a broad range of sizes.
Additionally, the new store will include unique products such as oven-roasted chicken, self-serve bulk dry goods by the pound, and another Smart & Final first, a bakery on site.
The Smart & Final Extra! format provides a one-stop shopping experience where businesses and organizations, as well as households, can purchase grocery and everyday staple needs while also stocking up on thousands of club-size products, all without a membership fee.
Normal store hours are 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. Smart & Final will offer a free reusable bag with purchase while supplies last.
As a part of its commitment to the local community, Smart & Final is making two $2,500 donations each to the Carlsbad Youth Baseball Association and Kids for Peace, Inc.
