The next time you are walking downtown on State Street, Carlsbad Village Drive, or Carlsbad Blvd., be sure to look up as you will be pleasantly surprised at what you will see. Roughly 120 old flower baskets have been replanted with new and different plants than before and re-hung with all new hardware throughout the Village.
Thanks to Parks Supervisor, Morgan Rockdale, the city's Parks Maintenance Lead, Adam Lord, and the Parks Maintenance Worker, Rene Zepeda, Carlsbad Village looks a bit more colorful and fresh. They were installed in time for the Memorial Day holiday weekend.
According to Parks Services Manager, Tim Selke, one notable improvement is that the orientation of the baskets was changed from perpendicular to the road to parallel to the road. "This prevents the baskets from being hit by delivery trucks and ensures they all stay where they belong," Tim said. "I could not be more proud of the team for their efforts. This is just the first step in our efforts to improve the downtown."
It's the little things that make our downtown so special. The new hanging flowers baskets will help make this coming Summer even better, thanks to the dedication of the City of Carlsbad.
