Starting Saturday, August 14th and running through Monday, September 6th, 10 local artists will have a selection of artwork on display in retail, service, and hospitality businesses in downtown Carlsbad. Twenty businesses will serve as pop-up art galleries for this temporary art program.
The temporary art program, supported by the City of Carlsbad's Cultural Arts Office, is designed to create interaction between the business and creative arts sectors and to encourage local businesses to incorporate unique temporary artistic creations to enliven the Village. It will kick off with live chalk art painting in the parking lot of Carlsbad Village Music (505 Carlsbad Village Drive) starting at 9am on August 14th. Local artists Phyllis Swanson, Cecelia Linayao (artwork shown above and below), and Ron Juncal will each create a large piece, live, and when completed their pieces will be put on display for all to enjoy during the three week program.
To celebrate the beauty and innocence of summer and taking into consideration the Labor Day holiday weekend, this temporary art program is titled “Spirit of America” and will include paintings, mixed media, photography and chalk art.
Mark your calendar and stay tuned for more details. The Carlsbad Village Association “Pop Up Art” page will be updated soon with artist profiles, business locations, a walking map, and more to help you enjoy Pop-Up Art: A New Experience in downtown Carlsbad August 14 - September 6.
