Crews are making progress on the Grand Avenue Improvement Project, a series of storm drain system upgrades and other infrastructure enhancements in Carlsbad Village. Construction is being performed in segments west to east in order to minimize impacts to local businesses, residents and visitors.
Since construction began in May, crews have installed upgraded storm drain pipes along the westernmost segment of Grand Avenue, from just east of the railroad tracks to Roosevelt Street. Crews are completing restorations along this segment of Grand Avenue this week, and will continue east to install the new storm drain pipes between Roosevelt Street and Madison Street in the coming weeks. It is estimated that each segment will take approximately six to eight weeks to complete.
In addition to the storm drain system upgrades, the project will also install conduit for decorative tree lighting and repair or replace a number of street light poles and water valves in the area. Once the improvements are completed this fall, streets within the project area will be resurfaced and restriped.
During construction, traffic control will be in place along some segments of the project area on weekdays from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. No work is planned on weekends or major holidays at this time. It is estimated the work will be complete by Fall 2015.
