With a Carlsbad-centric theme, 10 local and regional artists brought their conception of what Carlsbad looks, sounds, smells, and tastes like, using repurposed surfboards as their canvas. The results have been nothing short of amazing!
From airbrush to stained glass to acrylic and mixed media, 10 six-foot surfboards gave us a peek into what Carlsbad is all about.
This Sunday, June 25th, all 10 surfboards will be relocated to the 25th Annual Art in the Village outdoor art show in the heart of downtown Carlsbad for thousands people to see. Art in the Village is a free community event, ideal for the entire family, and takes over four downtown blocks where State St. and Grand Ave. meet. Until then, you can find them located in 10 individual businesses in downtown Carlsbad by clicking on temporary art.
Surfboards will be placed in various locations throughout Art in the Village, including the Ting Internet Stage on Grand Avenue, in the City of Carlsbad Cultural Arts Pop Up Art booth on North State Street, and next to the three sidewalk musician locations throughout the venue. Be sure to check them out before they are sold and off to their new homes!
This temporary art installation, called "Pop Up Art: A New Experience," is managed by the Carlsbad Village Association and is supported by the City of Carlsbad's Cultural Arts. It is designed to create interaction between the business and creative arts sectors and to encourage local businesses to incorporate unique temporary artistic creations to enliven the Village.
