Mark your calendars for Sunday, June 23rd, as downtown Carlsbad prepares to host the 26th Annual Art in the Village, a celebration of creativity and community spirit. From 9 am to 5 pm, Grand Avenue and State Streets will transform into a bustling hub of artistic expression, showcasing the talents of 130 fine artists from across the region and Mexico.
Since its inception in 1998, Art in the Village, organized by the Carlsbad Village Association (CVA), has been a highlight of the summer season, drawing art enthusiasts and families alike. This free, one-day event offers visitors the opportunity to peruse a diverse array of artwork, all carefully juried for quality and originality.
From oil paintings to watercolors, mixed media to digital art, photography to glasswork, woodworking to jewelry, pottery, and beyond, there's something to captivate every artistic taste. What sets Art in the Village apart is the chance to meet the creators themselves, as artists welcome guests into their booths, sharing insights into their techniques and inspirations.
But Art in the Village is more than just an art show—it's a cultural experience. The event's vibrant atmosphere is enhanced by live music performances throughout the day. This year, attendees can look forward to the soulful keyboard melodies on the Ting Internet stage of Jemille Vialet, the infectious energy of Jehlad Hickson and his band, and the rockabilly rhythms of The Ramblin' Sweethearts.
For young art enthusiasts, the City of Carlsbad hosts the Pop-Up Art artmaking booth, where children and adults alike can unleash their creativity under the guidance of the city's Arts Education team. From abstract "glass-like" masterpieces to face painting and live music, there's no shortage of interactive fun for all ages.
And let's not forget about the culinary delights awaiting visitors at the Food, Beer, and Wine Garden featuring local purveyors promising to tantalize taste buds and quench thirsts! And fast casual to fine dining, wine bars and coffee shops are just steps from the four-block open air art show. There is something here for everyone.
For those looking to reduce their carbon footprint, the City of Carlsbad offers a complimentary Bike Valet service, operated by the San Diego County Bicycle Coalition. Cyclists can pedal to the event with peace of mind, knowing their bikes and accessories will be securely stored while they immerse themselves in the festivities. Stay tuned for the bike valet location and access tips.
