National Farmers' Market Week Winners Score At The Market

The State Street Farmers’ Market joined farmers markets across the country to celebrate National Farmers Market Week August 7-13, 2022. To recognize this special day, the Carlsbad Village Association, the folks responsible for the weekly market, gave away delicious bounty bags and Carlsbad swag on Wednesday, August 10th to some lucky market goers.

No purchase was necessary for this special giveaway, designed to introduce market goers to new vendors or gift them with items from some of their favorites. Four Bounty Bags were up for grabs. Each bag contained bread from Prager Brothers, fresh produce from a variety of our local farmers, and dessert items from Big Joy Bakery. One bag featured meat from Perennial Pastures, another poultry from Three Sons Farm. Dry Dock Fish featured their fresh fish in a third bag and for the plant-based bag a fresh lentil pasta from Bisogno Pasta as the main course. All items were delivered to the winners in a Carlsbad themed canvas tote bag, great for future market visits.

In the midst of a global pandemic, farmers markets — like all other small businesses — innovated to continue operations for the farmers and communities that depend on them. Farmers markets foster direct relationships between community members and farmers which can work to create a more fair and sustainable food system. Farmers markets are a hub for connection and collective action around shared values. This is what we celebrated during National Farmers Market week and why we are so proud of the State Street Farmers' Market.
