Is there a more noble cause than to make your city “America’s Kindest City?” This is precisely what Carlton Lund, visionary behind the Kindness Meter Project, aimed to do when he began this quest over 15 years ago.
Join Lund, artist Wyland, and others at the Official Kindness Meters Dedication Ceremony this Friday, September 23rd, starting at 7pm. For one full hour, Carlsbad Boulevard will be closed for a village block party, complete with live music to round out the dedication ceremony.
Over half a dozen Kindness Meters have been erected around North County San Diego with 100% of the proceeds benefiting a number of charitable organizations in the community including the Carlsbad Charitable Foundation, Carlsbad Educational Foundation, Agua Hedionda Lagoon Foundation, and The Moonlight Cultural Foundation. These solar powered, credit card accepting meters were donated in yet another act of kindness by San Diego-based parking meter company, IPS Group, Inc.
Near each of the Kindness Meters, kids and adults alike can enjoy Wyland’s image of Darlene the Dolphin with caption “Feed Darlene,” a throwback to the original concept of the overall project.
