From The Robot to Cat Nap, the newest addition to the murals in the Village of Carlsbad, Cecil the Lion, is in good company.

There are over half a dozen extraordinary murals adorning the buildings throughout the Village.  The newest mural is a memorial on the façade of gastro pub, 83 Degrees, on Carlsbad Village Drive.

Carlsbad-based Studio 2 artists Ron Juncal and Phyllis Swanson painted the 12-foot-by 9-foot wall of the building at the request of 83 Degrees co-owner Mayur Pavagadhi, who grew up in Kenya.

“The plans for a new mural were already in the works,” explained General Manager Nick Wheeler in a recent San Diego Union-Tribune article. “It was just a matter of finding the right vision.  The tragic death of Cecil provided that inspiration.”
