12th Annual Carlsbad Music Festival is Almost Here!

Blog Post - August 12, 2015

Category: What's New

Mark your calendars because the 12th annual Carlsbad Music Festival is almost here!  CMF is a three-day summer celebration of “adventurous music by the beach” in our own charming Carlsbad Village.  The Carlsbad Music Festival runs Friday, August 28th through Sunday, August 30th, and offers three ticketed “Mainstage” concerts along with 60 or more free concerts.  On Saturday there will also be a free “Village Music Walk” from 3:30 to 10:00pm.

Now in its twelfth season, CMF has achieved a level of artistic integrity and vision that has been praised as “one of the area’s most innovative music showcases” (KPBS, San Diego’s NPR affiliate), “phenomenal” (U-T San Diego), “a starry array of new music specialists” (Alex Ross, The Rest is Noise) and “magnificently enlightening” (Los Angeles Times). In 2010, CMF won ASCAP’s Award for Adventurous Programming.

Ticketed “Mainstage” artists this year will be Todd Reynolds, Vicki Ray and Kartik Seshadri.  Todd Reynolds is considered the violinist of choice for a generation of New York composers and will be performing a concert of works for violin and electronics by David Lang, Michael Gordon, Ingram Marshall and Reynolds himself.  One of the leading interpreters of contemporary piano music, Vicki Ray performs a concert of music for piano with electronics by Steve Reich, Donnacha Dennehy and Somei Satoh, and is joined by violinist Todd Reynolds for Meredith Monk’s “Gotham Lullaby.” Disciple of Ravi Shankar and collaborator of Philip Glass called “today’s greatest sitar player,” Encinitas’ own Kartik Seshadri performs a concert of Indian classical music.

The Carlsbad Music Festival is a 501(c)(3) organization that was founded in 2004 by composer Matt McBane.  To learn more about the Carlsbad Music Festival or to purchase festival passes or individual tickets, visit them on line at:  http://carlsbadmusicfestival.org/ or click More Info>>.
