Dedication party of the newly renovated western entrance of St. Michael's by-the-Sea Church Narthex. All are Welcome! St. Michael's Church was designed by Albert Frey, FAIA renowned architect and Desert Modernism pioneer. Frey’s building was dedicated in 1959, though anticipating an expansion, the back wall was left in a transitory state. The Narthex addition was designed by a next generation Palm Springs Modernist (and Albert Frey advocate) Lance O'Donnell, AIA of o2 Architecture in Palm Springs. Wanting to capture as much natural light as possible, the new entrance features a combination of pocket sliding glass doors, and a movable screen that allows for a variety of configurations to accommodate security, airflow, open air access and egress. o2 Architects partnered with Level3 Construction to complete the redesign.
