Alley Art Wall located in the alley of 550 Grand Ave. in the Carlsbad Village.
Details
Carlsbad elementary school students are invited to help paint a mural with Carlsbad artist and Valley Middle School art teacher Mr. Snyder. The wall will be prepped with a fun and colorful design and all supplies will be provided courtesy of the Alley Art Wall.
In addition to the painting experience, digital photo teacher, Mrs. Roon, will be facilitating a hands-on photo experience. Students will be invited to capture the mural painting through a digital camera. Cameras will be provided.
“We are looking to provide a fun and inspiring day for students while also introducing them to some amazing elective classes offered at Valley Middle School,” Mr. Snyder said. The Explore Wheel is the perfect option for students looking to try multiple creative classes throughout the school year.”
Mr. Snyder and Mrs. Roon each teach classes on the Explore Wheel. This elective option is available to all incoming Valley Middle School 6th graders. If incoming 6th graders choose the Explore Wheel, they will explore art with Mr. Snyder for 13 weeks before rotating to Mrs. Roon’s digital photo class for the next 13 weeks. Other exciting classes will be added to the Explore Wheel experience filling out an inspiring year.
The mural painting event takes place at the Alley Art Wall, a collection of 17 permanent murals as well as a dedicated recreational mural space where aspiring muralists of all ages can practice their skills and grow their passion for mural painting. The Alley Art Wall was established by Mr. Snyder in 2021 in partnership with the Carlsbad VIllage Boys and Girls Club.
What Art and Photo parents/students have to say:
Self confidence and excitement for school emerged after my daughter started taking art class with Mr. Snyder in 6th grade. She loved all the projects—I will forever cherish the animal clay sculpture we proudly display in our home along with all the other media she was introduced to. - Art parent
When I joined Photography last year, I was taught so much during that journey. I made new bonds, I learned how the camera worked and it brought me into Yearbook! Photo is an inspiring elective because it teaches kids so many things. - Photography student
Mr. Snyder's fun and engaging teaching style inspired my daughter's creativity beyond the classroom. His love of art was contagious, so my daughter frequently came home from school excited to practice the new techniques she was learning. Mr. Snyder's artistic talent and passion for guiding his students' growth is complemented by the warm environment he creates, where his students can feel confident to use their imagination to its fullest. - Art parent
