The Women’s Balcony

This dark comedy depicts how liberal orthodox Mizrachi practices are tested, and how the community responds. When the women’s balcony collapses at a bar mitzvah, then the congregational rabbi falls ill, a chance meeting brings a young, traditional orthodox rabbi to the community. The women have raised money to re-build their balcony, but the new rabbi wants to use the money to buy a new sefer Torah instead.  And when the new rabbi insists that all married women cover their heads, women rebel in the kitchen and in the bedroom. Soon questions arise concerning tzni’ut  (modesty), empowerment, and what is best for the entire community. “A very human and funny story.” – The Jerusalem Post
