Fever at Dawn

In 1945, 25-year-old Hungarian Mikló is freed from a concentration camp and sent to a Swedish hospital to be treated for tuberculosis. The doctors there tell him he has six months to live. Refusing to face another death sentence, Miklós decides to find love instead. He pens 117 letters to 117 Hungarian girls also being treated in Swedish hospitals in hopes of finding a wife. Nineteen-year-old Lili decides to write back. What starts as correspondence develops into a deep love which, despite the odds, both Miklós and Lili are compelled to pursue.

Based on the book Fever at Dawn by Péter Gárdos
