Our Mantra

We believe bicycling is a healthy, affordable, and environmentally friendly form of transportation and recreation that should be safe and attractive to everyone who wants to ride, wherever their destination and whatever their purpose. Bicycling is good for our communities and for the people who ride, and so we work to increase the number of people who ride bikes as a regular part of their lives.

Join @d11caltrans and the San Diego Bike Coalition on Thursday, May 23 at 10:30am to celebrate the opening of the SR-56 bike bath extension in Carmel Valley. 🚴🏾

✨A ribbon cutting ceremony will be held under I-5 where the extension will connect the SR-56 bike path to the Old Sorrento Valley Road path.✨

This completes a critical component of the Regional Bike Network, consistent with the San Diego Regional Bike Plan and Bicycle Master Plan!

It sure would be nice if it were opened for bike to work day. Back when rose canyon bike path was fully done, we also had to wait for the politicians to cut the ribbon before allowing cyclist to use it.

Thanks for the post. Sharing. It is a BIG little extension. Will be great to have this connection. Many many years in the making.

I am so happy. It is scary and unsafe going on Carmel Valley Road

Why did we have to wait so long for this? They spent $$$$ on those massive freeway bridges, and the bike path is ¢¢¢¢

Great news! Strange that the city is waiting until the week after bike-to-work day.

Amazing connection and so much safer. It is kind of dark and scary under that bridge. Are any light being put in?

I saw people using it this weekend. Might be open unofficially already

Does anyone know the address of this location? Where can one park to start the ride up first then down coming back?

Did they figure out the flooding problem under the freeway?

Thanks Bobby

Since May is Bike Month, we are spreading awareness about important bike laws, bike infrastructure and bike safety tips to get you ready and informed to take on the road.

Today, we are talking about AB1909, an assembly bill that requires motor vehicle traffic to move over an entire lane when passing cyclists and to give cyclists a minimum of 3 feet of clearance.

What do you think about AB1909? Do you think that motorists have been respecting this new law? Have you, as a motorist, been respecting it?

As a reminder, we are trying to raise $10,000 dollars this month for Bike Month! With your help, we can continue to raise awareness about bike issues. Click the link in to donate: https://sdbikecoalition.org/2024-bike-month-fundraiser/

Pedal on!

Funding for this bike safety social media campaign is provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Since May is Bike Month, we are working with the Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) to spread awareness about important bike laws, bike infrastructure and bike safety tips to get you ready and informed to take on the road.

Today, we are talking about AB413, an assembly bill that took effect in January 2024 which creates intersection “daylighting.”

What do you think about daylighting? Have you noticed a change in your own neighborhood?

Celebrating Bike Month with Trek/Electra's BCycle e-Bike share boondoggle cratering and out of business in the e-Bike mecca of Encinitas. “The reality is that there was not even a whiff of profitability — they were taking a bath,” Mayor Tony Kranz, who met with company officials, told the City Council last week. www.sandiegouniontribune.com/communities/north-county/encinitas/story/2024-05-02/e-bike-rental-co...
