According to Father Doran Stambaugh, “Jazz Evensong is yet one more in a long list of unexpected blessings that have emerged in the midst of this global pandemic. The purpose of St. Michael’s Jazz Evensong is not for jazz to bring people to church, but for the church to bring jazz to the people!"

The Dene Davidson's Cool Jazz Band consists of local jazz musicians including Joey Carano on the guitar, Robert Weller on drums, Dene Davidson on Bass, Leonard Thompson on piano, and Keith Bishop on the saxophone and flute.

“It is such a joy to sit on the lawn as the sun sets, and listen to the music, and be still,” Father Doran said.

Evensong Jazz is held every Sunday at 4pm through 2021. This free event is for the entire community. Bring a picnic dinner, low back chair, or blanket; let the kids enjoy the delightful playground. Rest assured that all Covid-19 health and safety protocols are in place. There is no need to RSVP ahead of time.

The 90-minute program is from 4:00pm to 5:30pm every Sunday and begins with 30 minutes of music followed by short prayers, psalms and canticles with one or two songs between each reading.

Evensong started last September on the 13th. Originally, the program was funded to continue only up until June of this year, but donations from attendees and a generous gift from the Gordon Klett and the Klett Family Trust will enable it to continue for the remainder of 2021.
